Honoring the Rauhnächte, An Introduction to the 13 Wishes Ritual
Updated: 6 days ago

A Guide for a Soulful Year End Ceremony
I got this guide from the Glasgow Witch’s website. I created this guide for my own use because I did the ritual and found it to be a very meaningful way to celebrate the end of a year while inviting the next year in with good intentions. The Rauhnächte, also known as the 13 Wishes Ritual, marks a sacred time between the years. It is a mystical pause when the veil between worlds is thin, and the mundane and spiritual worlds overlap. Each of the 12 nights is said to correspond with one of the 12 months of the coming year. A wish is released in a burning ritual on each of the twelve nights. The 13th wish is kept and represents the dream or intention that we are meant to nurture ourselves. You can begin writing your wishes anytime leading up to the Winter Solstice. This gives you several weeks for quiet reflection and visioning for the incoming year. Some people like to begin the ritual on Samhain, October 31, honoring the ancient gateway between endings and beginnings.
Enhancing Your Wish Writing Practice
Incorporating ritual and special details into your wish writing can make it a meaningful experience; gather a few items that resonate with you. One suggestion is to create a cozy atmosphere for reflection and creativity, enjoying your favorite beverage while dedicating time to dream and visualize the possibilities ahead. Perhaps assemble a tray with items for your wish writing practice, serving as a reminder of your intentions. Consider including a dedicated journal, decorative stickers, and inspirational quotes or images. This curated space honors your dreams and encourages you to manifest them, reinforcing your commitment each time you write. Here are some examples of items to gather.
Some music to play during your ritual
A favorite mug for your beverage of choice
Essential oils or your favorite room spray.
Examples are - Cedar, Amber, Bergamont, Myrrh, Eucalyptus and Cedarwood
A special candle holder and some candles
An animal spirit picture or figurine that will be known as an ally who will carry your messages to fruition.
You will also need a special pen
Slips of paper to record each wish
A small vase to collect your wishes.
Begin each ritual by turning on the music. Brew some tea or prepare your beverage. Light the candle add scent to the atmosphere. Each act invoking one of the four elements air, fire, water and earth.
Settle into a cozy chair with a favorite blanket, Each time you sit down choose 0ne or two topics from the list below as your focus. Ask yourself: “What do I want to experience and invite into 2027?” Close your eyes and feel each wish as though it has altready come true.
sip your tea and gaze upon the flame, close your eyes to meditate and then slip into a visualization of what will make the next year magical and inspiring and fulfilling.
When you feel ready write one or two wishes, fold them gently. hold it near your heart. Then, as you place it in the jar wisper: “May this or something better unfold in perfect timing and harmony.”

Tips for Writing Your 13 Wishes
Each wish is written as if it is already a reality, short, clear, personal.
They should be about you and no one else.
Stick to a concise statement and make it concrete. Use present tense language.
For Example
Instead of writing I want to be more confident, write “I speak my truth with clarity and confidence.
Instead of writing “I hope to travel more”, write I am joyfully exploring new places that expand my spirit.
Instead of writing “I want to have 10 new clients next year, write “ I am working with 10 perfect new clients in my business
I used the same examples offered in the Glascow Witch. See Below.
Topic | Examples |
“I am feeling strong healthy and energized each morning as I care for my body with love and consistency”
“I am creating and sharing my artwork that deep;y nourishes my soul and inspires others.”
"I am surrounded by authentic relationships that uplift, inspire, and brng joy into my life.”
"I am thriving in my creative business working with clients who value and support my gifts.”
“My home feels like a sacred space that nourishes creativity, rest and connection.”
“I trust the flow of life and feel guided by my inner wisdom every day.”
“I am exploring new places and experiences that awaken my sense of wonder and joy.”
“I am usng my creativity and compassion to make a meaningful difference in the world.”
Write each wish down on one of your strips of paper, fold each wish so it cannot be seen and place them tgether in jar or box to store until you are ready for the Ritual of Burning.
Wishcasting: The Ritual of Burning
Beginning on the Winter Solstice, you will burn one wish each day or night for twelve days. Do not read them.
This symbolic gesture of casting your wishes into the fire signifies trust—trust in life, trust in the universe, and trust in your own inner strength, as you present your intentions to a higher power or the supportive forces of the universe.
The 13th wish, however, is kept. It is not offered to the fire but is read with intention. This last wish reveals the one dream or intention that you are responsible for nurturing yourself. While the twelve wishes are handed over to the universe, the thirteenth serves as a reminder that we are active creators of our lives.
A Closing Reflection
The 13 Wishes Ritual is a sacred journey, guiding us gently from the deep introspection of Samhain, through the shimmering renewal of the Solstice, and into the dawning light of the new year. It is a ritual that is filled with clarity and purpose. This enchanting practice serves as a gentle reminder that while we may whisper our intentions to the universe with open hearts and unwavering trust, we are also humble co-creators of our own destinies, weaving the tapestry of our lives with intention and grace.
As you tend to your wishes, may each one become a seed of light, guiding you toward a soulful and creative year ahead.
